I used to wash my hair everyday and color my hair every month. After awhile of doing this, my hair was suddenly becoming extremely dry and frizzy. I mentioned to my stylist about the trouble I was having and she recommended that I stop washing my hair every day.

Initially it was a major adjustment to not shampoo every day. I just hated working out and then not showering. But I began to adjust as the weeks went by. I noticed a significant improvement in the way my hair looked and felt.

My stylist also recommended doing weekly deep conditioning treatments for at least 30 minutes. This further improved the condition of my hair.

If you are experiencing damaged and frizzy hair, maybe you should try shampooing less often and go for more conditioning treatments. It may just do the trick.

Have you been styling your hair pretty much the same way for years? It seems like I search for a brand new hairstyle every so often and comb many online sites and magazines for ideas. I come out with a photo of a hairstyle that I absolutely love.

Then when I take this hairstyles photo I love to the stylist to get it cut, I find out that the style is pretty much exactly the same way me hair is right now with a few minor additions or changes.

Maybe I will add a wispy bang, full bang or even choppy bangs. Maybe layers around the face is the change this time. But all the styles look the same.

Sometimes it is really hard to break out of the same hairstyle rut. Drastic measures may be necessary, such as going from a long hair style to a medium or short one. Or adding some highlights or even changing your color completely.

The best advice for breaking out of the hairstyles rut is to do everything gradually. If you want to go with the cute short bob hairstyles that all the celebrities are wearing, take it slow. Try out the long bob first, then go to medium length before making the plunge to very short hair.

I recently heard a dermatologist give several recommendations to people that want to protect or improve the condition of their hair.

Many people have damaged hair that is caused by many different sources. Whenever you color treat your hair, add highlights, get a perm, apply a relaxer, get hair extensions, blow dry, flat iron, curl and even wash your hair, you are damaging it.

Our hair is very durable, yet over time repeated occurrences of damage can result in severely damaged hair.

Recommendations to keep your hair in good shape include:

1. Keep color/perm/relaxing procedures to a minimum of every 6 weeks. The more frequently you do these damaging processes, the higher probability you will damage your hair.

2. Unless absolutely necessary, don't wash your hair every day.

3. Don't flat iron/curl your hair every day. (If you apply a shine serum on the hair after you wash and flat iron it, you may be able to keep your hair smooth for up to 2 days without having to flat iron again. Just be sure to put a shower cap on your hair when you shower. The humidity will ruin your nice straight hair)

4. Don't blow dry your hair every day. If you wash your hair every other day, this won't be an issue, but if you must wash your hair every day (some people need to!) then try letting it air dry every other day. The blow dryer can cause a lot of damage to the hair.

5. Get your hair trimmed frequently. By trimming the hair, you will be cutting off any split ends before they split all the way up the hair shaft.

Do you love the look of celebrities with long, wavy hair? Have you ever tried to get that look yourself?

Here are a few suggestions to re-create the long, wavy hair style you see.

Those are great looking hair styles! Here are a few suggestions for creating the look on your own. It will probably take a lot of trial and error to make it just right.

1. Wrap 1-inch wide sections of hair around a large-barrel curling iron, securing each piece with a pin-curl clip. After letting the hair cool (10-15 minutes, loosen the curls and use a rattail comb to gently tossle the hair.

2. If you have naturally curly or wavy hair: Blow dry the hair using a diffuser attachment. Twist hair and wrap it around your fingers as you dry it. Once dry, enhance the waves by wrapping randon pieces of hair around the barrel of a 1-1/2 inch curling iron--leaving the ends out. Then spray with a finishing spray to get the piecey look.

3. Blow dry the hair straight and flat iron it straight. Set the hair in the crown area in 3-inch Velcro rollers and leave in for 20 minutes. Next, wrap 2-inch sections of the rest of your hair around a large-barrel curling iron. Don't go more than 3-inches from the scalp with the iron. Then unravel the rollers and use a fine-tooth comb to tease and position the hair.

Super Frizzy Hair-YIKES

Is there anyone out there that has to deal with frizzy hair? Probably not, right? Well, frizzy hair is a daily battle for me. My hair used to be straight and fairly smooth. As the years go by and I keep coloring my hair, it has turned into a frizzy mess.

But, about a year ago I discovered the flat iron. I know it has been around for many years--I'm a little skeptical of new things. Anyways, Now I have conquered frizzy hair and so can you. Here are the steps that I follow to eliminate any frizz in my hair.

1. Shampoo using a product that contains frizz control.
2. Always use conditioner.
3. Apply a small amount of Paul Mitchell Skinny hair serum.
4. Blow dry my hair using an Ionic Hair Dryer
5. Plug my flat iron in. Let it warm up while I apply a small amount of Silk Therapy throughout my hair.
6. Clip up most of my hair--start at bottom.
7. Flat iron all layers (with my very hot flat iron--this takes about 8 minutes)
8. Presto--Like Magic--My hair is soft, shiny and smooth,

And it stays that way until I shampoo it again (every other day). When I am not washing my hair, I always put on a shower cap to prevent the moisture from the shower frizzing up my hair again.

Our November 2006 Hair Styles Collection features several medium hair styles with choppy layers that can be worn straight or curly.

Nicole Ritchie gives us two great examples of different ways to wear the exact same hair cut. In the curly hair style, the hair is full of soft wave throughout.

In the straight hair style below, the hair is flat ironed so smooth and straight that you can hardly see all of the layers in the hair.

To create the curly hair style, add a curl-enhancing gel throughout the hair and blow dry using your fingers and a diffuser attachment. Apply all over curls using a medium barrel curling iron or hot rollers. Since the curls are loose, you will not need to keep the curling iron in your hair for very long.

To create the straight and smooth hair style, apply a straightening cream throughout the hair and blow dry with a large round brush or a large paddle brush. Apply a heat protectant hair product to the hair and flat iron the hair from roots to the ends.

What are the hottest summer hair styles for 2006?

1. The short shaggy crop. This short hair style is chin length, layered with a tapered back. Long side-swept bangs are also a feature of this style. Short hair styles are in style this summer and they are more versatile than ever. See examples of many different types of short hair styles. Photo to the left shows a long layered short blonde hair style. Layering is throughout the hair.

To create this style on your own, you must blow dry the hair using a paddle brush. After drying the hair, run a flat iron throughout all the layers, directing the front layers to the side from a deep part.

Finally to finish this style (and keep it in place) you will need to apply some pomade throughout the hair. Pomade will make the layers look piecey and will also do wonders for making the style stay in place.

In 2005 the most popular hair styles were driven by celebrities, most notably the women actresses on “Sex in the City” and “Friends” and you could go down about any city in America and see look a like hairstyles. Some younger gals were thinking that in 2006 they might wish to imitate Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, although we may see more of a 1970’s hybrid between these of Paris and Britney and a more layered look like back then. In 2006 going bald will be the biggest trend, as those who have become enlightened will prove that they do not need to impress anyone with something as silly or ridiculous as a hair cut. For those who do not wish to show their enlightened self, we will see a re-emergence of the Ronald Reagan style hair cut for most men and a few will adopt the “I do not give a damn about you or anyone else” haircut style of shock jock Howard Sterns. For the women who are afraid to cut it all off we will see longer hair with a flared layered look. Not quite the Farah Facet haircut of the late 70’s but along that lines and this will be taking hold towards the end of 2006, mostly due to Hollywood’s influence on the masses. Prom night is obviously one of the most important social events in a teen's life. It combines romance, a party atmosphere, and a sense of saying goodbye to high school and carefree days. Everyone wants their prom experience to come off without a hitch and become a memory they'll cherish for the rest of their lives. For many girls, one aspect of the big night often becomes incredibly important: which prom hair style to choose.

There's more to this decision than you might think. Prom hair styles have to withstand a lot of activity for several hours. Imagine trying to keep a hair style looking great while dancing, rushing around to see friends, and then partying at all of the after-prom parties. Whew! Seen in that light, choosing the best hair style takes more careful planning than you thought, huh?

Formal or Functional?

Probably the biggest decision you have to make is whether to go with a seriously formal hair style for prom, or one that is less formal but more functional and able to handle the frenetic activity without falling apart. It's easier for girls with short hair, of course, but they also have fewer styling options. Dry Hair And Split Ends

Using any amount of hot air will cause your hair to dry out. Dry weather and blow drying will strip the hair of its moisture. Shampooing frequently and swimming in chlorinated pools will lead to dry hair and split ends. Hair dyes, electric curlers and permanents cause hair to dry out and have split ends.

To avoid split ends, follow the following tips and keep your hair glossy:

• Use mayonnaise: Use a dollop of mayonnaise on the palm of the hand and massage it to the head and leave it on for five minutes before having the bath. The recommended time for the mayonnaise treatment is an hour.

• Spray the beer: If you do not get any respite from using the mayonnaise, you can use beer as a good setting lotion that gives your hair the crisp, healthy and shiny look. You can pour some beer into an empty pump bottle and spray on the hair after shampooing and towel dry. Then you can style or blow-dry the hair.

• Shampoo minimally: Though it has become fashionable to shampoo daily, it is not advisable to do so. Shampoo strips the hair of its natural oils and thus gives it a dry, limp appearance. Alternatively, choose the shampoo for the dry, damaged hair.

• Condition your hair: Dry hair can be benefited greatly by the use of conditioners after shampooing. The outer layers of the hair or cuticles peel away the shaft, resulting in split ends. Conditioner glues these cuticles back to the shaft and lubricates them. It also prevents the static electricity, thus preventing its frizzy appearance.

• Avoid heat: The heat appliances like blow-dryers, electric irons and curlers damage the hair. Instead of blow-drying the hair, you can pat dry with a towel. Replace electric curlers with unheated plastic rollers that were used in a bygone era. Straighten the hair by wrapping the slightly damp hair around the cold rollers and leave them on for about ten minutes. To curl the hair or give them a wavy appearance, use sponge rollers overnight or sleep with the moist braids.

• Cover your head: Wearing a hat during the windy day is the safest way to protect the hair from drying out. This way, you will also protect your hair from drying out by the sun.

• Cut off the split ends: Every six weeks or so, try cutting off the split ends to keep them under control.
